Current Teaching

Xavier is Associate Lecturer at MMU Cheshire and Academic Coordinator for the International Summer Pogramme at Lancaster University for the 'British Culture and Society 1800-2000)' course. He has taught on the ENG100 (Introduction to English Literature) and SPAN200 (Advanced Spanish: Oral Skills) courses in the past.

Thesis Title

Consuming Affect: The Staging and Screening of Corporeal Transgression

Research Interests

Xavier is particularly interested in affective and body theory, the Gothic and Horror modes/genres and contemporary literature. He is also very interested in Postmodernism, Gender Studies and Queer Theory. Xavier's PhD centres on notions of affect in the staging and screening of affect from Greek tragedy, the Gothic stage, the grand guignol and Artaud's theatre of cruelty to sadistic cinema, torture porn and faux snuff.

Current Research

Xavier is currently writing a book proposal, tentatively entitled Body Gothic: Corporeal Transgression in Contemporary Literature and Film, for the University of Wales Press Gothic Literary Series.

External Roles

Xavier is a postgraduate representative for the International Gothic Association and a member of the British Shakespeare Association. He is also an associate of the Higher Education Academy.
