Welcome to the Department of European Languages and Cultures
We are a medium-sized department in a lively university which is in the premier league for teaching and research. We are pioneers in multi-disciplinary language studies, offering combinations of language studies with European and 'national' societies and cultures. In both teaching and research we have a strong commitment to intercultural studies and we believe that in today's global world the language, culture and history of the countries of Europe are best understood in a trans-national (European and/or global) perspective. A degree from DELC guarantees in-depth, specialist knowledge of target languages and the societies in which they are spoken. This approach works: language graduates from Lancaster are amongst the most employable of all language graduates across the UK.
