David Nott

Emeritus Professor of French Language Studies

Research Interests

Current research projects

My paper on the genesis of La Truite by Roger Vailland, given at the Vailland colloquium in Belfast in June 2004, was published in the Dec 2004 issue of the Cahiers Roger-Vailland. A further paper on La Truite was published by Rodopi in2007, in a collection of papers on genetic criticism. My French language research currently centres on non-standard uses ofque, and on constructions involving capacité à/de + infinitive. I am also working on a revised version of French Grammar Explained, for eventual publication in the Good Practice Guide published on the Web by the HEA Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies.

Further Information

I am a founder member (1994) of the Association des Amis de Roger Vailland; I am also a member (2000) of the Specialist Advisory Group for Languages of the HEA Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies. I am an elected Independent Director on the Board ofthe Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS), and am alsoone of theDirectors nominated by ALCS to the Board of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA).

Other Interests and Hobbies

Theatre, opera and concert-going; fell-walking and ramblingin the UK and France; gardening; European history, art and politics.
