2nd Year Language ModulesIntensive Language courses (pre-Requisite: Part I 100 course)
Advanced Language courses (pre-Requisite: Part I 101 course)
For each language, the second year course consists of two integrated 0.5 units (200 and 201) (200i and 201i), which make up the second-year language course for major, combined major and minor students. The two 0.5 units may not be taken independently. Students who have taken the Intensive language course (100) in their first year, normally follow an Intensive course throughout the second year (200i/201i), taught separately from students who have taken the Advanced course (101) and who will be studying 200/201 courses in year 2. These courses aim to enhance students' linguistic proficiency in a variety of registers. A systematic study of the vocabulary, grammar and syntax of the language forms a specific component of the course. Use is made of contemporary written and audio-visual material in the language. The course also aims to broaden and deepen students' knowledge and understanding of different aspects of modern society, politics and culture, and contemporary issues and institutions, in countries where the language is spoken, and to prepare them for residence abroad. AssessmentAssessment for the full unit 200/201 is by coursework (40%) and examination (60%). |
