French and German 2010
I had studied French at A-level, and started German from scratch in my firs
t year. The degree generally consists half of compulsory language classes and one core culture module per language, and other culture modules, which you can pick from a range of options. If you ever have any problems, there is always a number of helpful and friendly staff to help you out. Personally, in the 3-and-a-bit years I've spent as a Lancaster student, I'm proud of the skills and knowledge I've gained here and I feel a great sense of achievement when I think back to the beginning of first year, and see how far I've come. This really came home to me in my year abroad - I went from not knowing more than a few words of German at the beginning of first year, to giving a presentation in German, to Germans, on a German topic in Germany.
