Tom Giles

French and German 2010

I had studied French at A-level, and started German from scratch in my firsPhoto of Tom Gilest year. The degree generally consists half of compulsory language classes and one core culture module per language, and other culture modules, which you can pick from a range of options. If you ever have any problems, there is always a number of helpful and friendly staff to help you out. Personally, in the 3-and-a-bit years I've spent as a Lancaster student, I'm proud of the skills and knowledge I've gained here and I feel a great sense of achievement when I think back to the beginning of first year, and see how far I've come. This really came home to me in my year abroad - I went from not knowing more than a few words of German at the beginning of first year, to giving a presentation in German, to Germans, on a German topic in Germany.
