Single Honours German 2010
Studying at Lancaster has brought me wonderful opportunities: during my time here I've not only received excellent in-class tuition but have also been bombarded with chances to explore languages and cultures beyond the lecture theatres in many schemes offered by the tireless staff, one such being the Film Club, which gives you the chance to actually create a film in another language.
Learning and participating in class is set to be challenging, but therein lies the enjoyment - imagine getting to grips with new foreign phrases or cultural phenomena every single week, and then using the precious gift that is your Year Abroad to really investigate every aspect of your target nation and unleash your own ability, which relentlessly improves as your immersion in another culture goes on.
Most of all I have enjoyed the feelings of competence and success. Three years at Lancaster's languages department has brought me a broad and deep knowledge and understanding of German-speaking culture and history, culminating in the confidence to live in Germany and feel equally at home there as I do here in Britain.
