Theme 6: Social Exclusion and Socially Creative SpacesShort description EU competition policy is increasingly linked with cohesion policy and thereby affects innovation policy at regional level. This produces a narrowly economic interpretation of creativity and creative spaces (Moulaert & Sekia 2003; Moulaert & Nussbaumer 2005), restricting opportunities for socially excluded groups to develop economic practice. Building on EU Framework 5 and 6 projects (SINGOCOM, KATARSIS) coordinated from Newcastle , we address the development of Socially Creative Spaces oriented to 'social innovation' (Hillier, Moulaert & Nussbaumer 2004; Harris & Klein 2006).
