The purpose of the day is for participants to engage with the question Can current theories of motivation inform practice in educational contexts?

The emphasis will be on discussion so even the keynote will leave plenty of room for questions.

The paper attached here has been written by Ros McClellan and Richard Remedios. It is intended to provide useful background for the seminar discussions to take place in Cambridge. Timetable for the day

10.30 - 11.00 

Arrival, registration and Tea/Coffee

11.00 – 12.30

Keynote by Professor Andy Elliott, University of Rochester, NY, USA.
Goal theory: Practice and Theory

12.30 – 1pm

Buffet lunch

1pm – 2.30

Discussion groups: Here we will split the conference down into smaller groups and each group can choose to discuss issues relating to the target papers; the keynote talk and/or issues related to the relationship between theory and practice. Groups will be kept small and the organisers will chair the groups.

2.30 – 3.30

Plenary:  The groups will report back and key issues will be discussed during the plenary session.
