As Lancaster University maintains its 9th position in the 2013 Complete University Guide the majority of disciplines in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences retain their top 20 positions in the UK subject rankings. Social Work at Lancaster University tops the subject league table ranking 1st in the UK. Art & Design rises to 2nd nationally and Linguistics is awarded a ranking of 3rd in the country.
Top 60 position in the world for Sociology, Linguistics, Politics and English
Social Sciences at Lancaster University is ranked 84th and 122nd for Arts and Humanities in the QS World University Rankings published on Monday 5 September 2011 with some individual subjects listed in the top 60 including Sociology ranked 49th and Linguistics 43rd. New centre to change how language in society is researched
Developing new approaches to the study of hate speech, exploring how people talk about climate change and looking at how changes in corporate governance are communicated will be part of the remit of a new £3.5m research hub at Lancaster University, which will study the use and manipulation of language in society.
Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the new Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science (CASS) will bring the latest techniques in linguistic analysis to bear on a range of questions in the social sciences. Read more »
