Potential Doctoral ProposalsI would be delighted to hear from potential doctoral students with interests in one or more of the following areas: twentieth-century and/or contemporary music, analysis, and musical meaning. Additional InformationFor eight years (2003-11) I was on the Executive Committee for the Society for Music Analysis (www.sma.ac.uk); between 2008 and 2011 I also served on the Executive Committee for the National Association for Music in Higher Education (NAMHE; www.namhe.ac.uk). I am currently on the Editorial Board, and from 2012 the Critical Forum Editor for, the journal Music Analysis (http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/journal.asp?ref=0262-5245), and am on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Music and Meaning (http://jmm.musicandmeaning.net). I sat on the Programme Committees for the Seventh European Music Analysis Conference (Rome 2011, http://www.gatm.it/Euromac/en/index.htm) and the NinthConfernece for Researching and Applying Metaphor (Lancaster 2012, http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/events/RAAM/). I organised a study day at Lancaster for the Society for Music Analysis ('Music Analysis and Teaching', March 2006 http://www.sma.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/ssd2006programme.pdf), and also directed the joint Lancaster Music Analysis Conference and Seventh International Conference on Music Since 1900 in July 2011 (http://www.sma.ac.uk/event/7th-msn-lancmac/). In 2008 I won a Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching at Lancaster University.
