"New standards for old: Putting learning back into literacy, numeracy & ESOL teaching"Date: 2nd May 2007 Time: 09.30-- -03.30pm At Blackpool & The Fylde College "New standards for old: Putting learning back into literacy, numeracy & ESOL teaching" Who is the seminar for? This one-day workshop is for teachers, trainers, managers, researchers and co-ordinators working in adult literacy, numeracy and language. This could be in the workplace, in college, in the community, in prison or with young adults. What is the seminar about? The day will focus on forthcoming changes in teaching standards and qualifications due in September 2007, which will affect initial teacher training and will also impact more widely on Skills for Life teaching. We will draw upon recent research and training to discuss, debate and think about the changes and the implications for practice. What input will there be? There will be representatives from LLUK, from the NRDC research into Effective Practice in Reading and Maths projects, from regional trainers and from research at Lancaster into a social practice approach to teaching adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL. This is in addition to what experiences and insights participants bring with them to share. What will we do on the day? The day will have a common issues approach, looking at the similar changes that face everyone as well as dividing into parallel session for literacy, numeracy and ESOL. The content of the day will be a mixture of information giving, discussion and practical activities to encourage reflection and sharing existing good ideas and practices. It is a unique opportunity to link research and practice relating to national changes within a well-established regional forum.
