3rd International Disability Studies Association ConferenceDate: 18-20 September 2006 The Disability Studies Association is a network of academics, researchers and activists throughout the UK who share an interest in disability studies. Disability Studies is concerned with the inter-disciplinary development of an increasing body of knowledge and practice, which has arisen from the activities of the disabled people's movement, and which has come to be known as 'the social model of disability'. The social model of disability locates the changing character of disability, which is viewed as an important dimension of inequality, in the social and economic structure and culture of the society in which it is found, rather than in individual limitations. The Association currently organises a bi-annual conference at Lancaster University, hosts this website, is a nominating body for the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and is planning to launch an on-line newsletter. Venue: Lancaster University. Event website: http://www.disabilitystudies.net Contact: Who can attend:
