Interdisciplinary Approaches to SustainabilityDate: 25 April 2006 Time: 14:00 - 15:30 Venue:- I.A.S Meeting Room 3 Can different disciplinary perspectives on sustainability be reconciled in some systematic way? In this presentation Janne Hukkinen will attempt to provide a cautious Yes to that question. The answer is affirmative, because one of the most exciting developments in sustainability studies during recent years has been the emergence of a systematic analytical frameworks that synthesize different disciplinary and professional perspectives on sustainability. The presentation applies an interdisciplinary framework to a small, local and peripheral case - reindeer management and forestry in Lapland - that nonetheless illustrates all the characteristics of a modern sustainability issue.
