Mark Stoner 'PowerPoint in a New Key'Date: 3 May 2006 Time: 15.30-17.00 pm This presentation offers a theoretical analysis of PowerPoint apart from the histrionics of the "'Tis and 'Taint" arguments (Atkinson, Byrne, Tufte 2004; Mason and Hlynka) about its value, and proposes a program of research to move forward our understanding of PowerPoint as an inscriptional system (Pea 61-2). Using concepts drawn from the literature, I provide analysis of a sample of PowerPoint materials. From that I suggest a program of research suggested by both theory and the results of its application that may provide a better understanding of the nature of and, consequently, the effective use of PowerPoint.
