Moving Manchester: Relocating Diaspora ResearchDate: 11 October 2006 Time: 5.00 pm-6.30 pm Department of English and Creative Writing Seminar Series 2006/07 This paper, to be presented by Professor Lynne Pearce and Dr Corinne Fowler, focuses on how the AHRC-funded project 'Moving Manchester/ Mediating Marginalities: how the experience of migration has informed writing in Greater Manchester from 1960 to the present' engages with current debates in British postcolonial and diaspora studies. Following recent work by James Procter, they will argue for the crucial importance of the specificity of location in our understanding of diasporic writing in Britain today. They will also illustrate why it is impossible to study 'regional' literatures without also attending to the publishing industry through which they are mediated. The project team will also report on work in progress. IAS Building, Seminar Room 1 Drinks and snacks will be available.
