IAS Colloquium - The Knowledge Based EconomyDate: 19-20 October 2005 Format Lancaster's Institute for Advanced Studies is dedicated to providing distinguished scholars and practitioners with 'time to think' on crucial contemporary issues in a rich and supportive interdisciplinary environment. While a small colloquium does not generate such time, the opening colloquium of the IAS does seek an alternative to the usual format of presenting a small number of relatively polished papers, often in parallel streams, to subject specialists. Instead, we ask all participants, irrespective of discipline, to share their most recent thoughts not only on where we are but also on where we might be going vis-à-vis the KBE. Thus our colloquium aims to allow some of the best minds in the field to engage in a genuine dialogue based upon up-to date, and perhaps 'blue skies' thinking. This will then feed into our deliberations over the course of the Annual Research Programme.
