Is there a European society (developing)?

The question if there is something like a European society, or if it is developing, includes a range of problems that have to be addressed, as most important being considered here "How can we justify definitions of particularity ('Europe') in a globalising world at all?"
This dilemma is very succinctly summarised in the well-known paradoxical catch-all construction of 'unity in diversity'. In an attempt to avoid pure normative solutions, I will borrow from the logics of glocalisation and sociality for an outline of how to possibly conceptualise contemporary forms of 'society' and 'European society' in particular.
Sophie Krossa is Lecturer in European studies in the Department of European Languages and Cultures. She is interested in a range of topics within 'European' sociology, mainly in the question of a 'European society', but also in classical and current sociological theory in general, integration, identity, conflict, communication, religion, culture and everyday life, cybersociality, transnationalization and Europeanization, 'European identity', European Union and enlargements (East Central Europe, Turkey). Sophie published several articles on the broad field of identity questions in East Central European contexts. She is currently working on several articles around the topic of a possibly emerging European society, linking this to aspects of 'glocalisation', 'East Central Europe and globalisation theory', 'Unity in diversity' and a critique of 'cosmopolitanism'.
