Inaugural Reading Professor Paul Farley

Paul Farley was born in Liverpool in 1965 and studied at the Chelsea School of Art, where he made paintings and short films. In l998 his first collection, The Boy from the Chemist is Here to See You won a Forward prize and a Somerset Maugham Award, and a year later he was the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year. His second collection, The Ice Age, was a Poetry Book Society Choice and received the Whitbread Poetry Award in 2002. His third collection of poetry, Tramp in Flames, appeared in 2006, along with a book about Terence Davies's Distant Voices, Still Lives. He has also recently edited a collection of John Clare for Faber's Poet-to-Poet series. As well as writing extensively for radio and presenting, he is Professor of Poetry at Lancaster University.
