Access to Justice and Human RightsDate: 18 February 2008 Time: 4.00 pm Roger Smith, Director of Justice Venue: IAS, Meeting Room 2 Roger Smith is a solicitor who has been director of JUSTICE since November 2001. He was director of Legal Education and Training at the Law Society 1998-2001, director of the Legal Action Group 1986-98 and solicitor, Child Poverty Action Group 1980-86. He qualified as a solicitor at the City firm of Allen and Overy and worked first in law centres. Roger is an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent, a visiting Professor at London South Bank University and has an honorary doctorate from University of Westminster (2007). He is the author of various publications, including Children and the Courts (Sweet and Maxwell) 1980, Shaping the Future: new directions in legal services (Legal Action Group) 1995, and Justice: redressing the balance (LAG) 1997. He writes regularly for legal specialist journals on human rights, criminal justice and other legal matters - he has monthly columns in the Law Gazette and New Law Journal.
