The seminar will be held by Marjo Kolehmainen whois doing PhD thesis on political humour in Finnish media at the University of Tampere, Finland. At the moment she is visiting the CGWS at Lancaster University. Besides her PhD study she is interested in popular discussions of pornography. She is currently writing an article manuscript about how the relation to porn is constructed in agony columns of young women's magazines. In this study she focuses on the role of affects in normalizing and gendering one's relation to porn. In her research material, descriptions of affects operate in shaping gendered relations to porn and thus contribute to the production of gender difference. In agony columns, excitement and interest are mainly offered as men's responses to porn whereas the feelings of disgust and upset are discussed only in relation to women. Place: Bowland North, Seminar Room 23 Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
