Cycling and the Social SciencesDate: 29/06/2004 Time: 10.15am The practice of cycling is relevant to many contemporary debates; about climate change and sustainability, obesity and healthy lifestyles, and urban quality-of-life. Cycling is also a key everyday mode of mobility across the globe, and one which is increasingly actively promoted by governments across car-dominated societies such as the UK. Cycling is also a complex and hugely varied practice, yet one which remains remarkably unexplored by the social sciences. This event aims to bring together academics, activists and transport professionals who are interested in social scientific approaches to the practice of cycling and the object of the bicycle.
