Capital Punishment and Eastern EuropeDate: 27 June 2006 Time: 1.00-2.00 pm Human Rights Forum Lunchtime Discussion Venue: Bowland North A41 This topic will be introduced by Dr Agata Fijalkowski (Law School) and will be based on a paper that she is due to present at a conference in July. Abstract: This paper examines the jurisprudence of Central and Eastern European courts concerning the death penalty. Clearly membership in the Council of Europe has played a role in abolition. The paper examines the extent of this institution's role, alongside other factors underlying the respective Court decisions concerning the death penalty in the region.Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
