The legendary Lee MillerDate: 4 March 2008 Time: 7.00 pm THE LEGENDARY LEE MILLER Evening Lecture: Antony Penrose 7pm, Tuesday 4 March 2008Elizabeth Livingston Lecture Theatre, Lancaster University An opportunity to hear Antony Penrose deliver a lecture about Lee Miller's stunning photographic work and her fascinating life. Antony Penrose is the son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose and author of The Lives of Lee Miller and Lee Miller's War. An iconic figure, Lee Miller (1907-1977) worked as a fashion model in New York in the 1920s, before becoming a fine art photographer in Paris, and an acclaimed photojournalist and war correspondent during the Second World War. Roland Penrose (1900-1984) was a surrealist painter and poet, and author of many books on the surrealist artists. £4 (Free to Friends of the Gallery and NUS card-holders)NB: As over 90 people have reserved a place for this lecture, booking is essential. Public lectures supported by the Granada Foundation These lectures are held in conjunction with the exhibition 'Joan Miró and the Surrealist Movement', on show at the Peter Scott Gallery until 14 March 2008. The exhibition features Miró's 'Constellations' prints from the Peter Scott Gallery Trust Collection, and a selection of photographs by Lee Miller and Roland Penrose on loan from Falmouth Art Gallery. The gallery is open during exhibitions Mon-Fri 11am-4pm & Thurs 11am-9pm; free admission. The Peter Scott Gallery is located in the Great Hall Complex at the end of the North Spine.
