Imagination at Lancaster offers a new infrastructural dimension promoting innovation and creativity in design that links research to industry and the public sector. The centre provides an organisational framework for externally funded projects whilst fostering new initiatives. It is an 'Imagination Lab' that enables people and organisations to engage with academia in dynamic and creative ways, giving time and space to research and imagine futures It is an open and exploratory research lab that investigates emerging issues, technologies and practices to advance knowledge and develop solutions that contribute to the common good. We conduct applied and theoretical research into products, places and systems - using innovative strategies that combine traditional science and social science methods with the practice-based methods arising from the arts. Emphasis is placed on productive collaborations to create desirable and sustainable futures. Areas of research span education, health, culture, the leisure sector, media, transport, manufacturing and the built environment. We are working with leading designers and innovators across the world to build an 'Imagination Lab' that enables people and organisations to engage with academia in dynamic and creative ways, giving time and space to research and imagine futures. The lab will be part of a global network of innovative centres of excellence that enable virtual as well as co-located engagement in research and development.
