Title: Bringing the social model of disability to bear in the making of government policy: Some observations on eureka moments and years of utter frustration

Grahame is the Assistant Director of the Centre for Research in Social Policy (CRSP), Loughborough University. Prior to joining Grahame worked in a number of Government Departments, most recently in the Office for Disability Issues within the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) working on delivery of the cross-departmental report to the Prime Minister on progress towards delivery of the government's vision for equality for disabled people by 2025. Before this, most of Grahame's work in DWP related to the development and management of a wide range of research/evaluation projects focussed on the way in which social policy impacts on the lives of disabled people - including:

monitoring of the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act;
developing an understanding of the attitudes and experiences of the diversepopulation ofdisabled people;
gaining insight into employers attitudes towards employing disabled people;
evaluation of the Permitted Work Rules and work on issues relating to the debate around the extra cos
