Sociology Departmental Seminars: Making Space for TimeDate: 16 May 2008 Time: 12.00 - 18.30
Venue: Bowland North, Seminar Room 2 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Making Space for Time One-day symposium on temporality and materiality All sociology postgraduate students, members of staff and visiting researchers are cordially invited to attend the Lancaster Sociology Departmental Symposium. This one-day event brings together sociologists, archaeologists and historians to make some space for thinking about time in the social sciences. The five invited speakers - Graeme Gilloch, Andrew Jones, John Tomlinson, Judy Wajcman and Yoke-Sum Wong - will discuss various aspects of temporality and materiality, including the question of acceleration and speed, the socio-technical conditions of remembering, and the interplay between material culture and memory. There will be three 90-minute sessions, followed by a 60-minute roundtable discussion, chaired by John Urry.
