GOING GREEN: DESIGNING SUSTAINABLE HOMES AND COMMUNITIESDate: 13 May 2008 Time: 18.00 - 19:30pm An evening lecture by internationally renowned architect and Director of the Affordable Homes Programme at the McGill University, Professor Avi Friedman GOING GREEN: DESIGNING SUSTAINABLE HOMES AND COMMUNITIES Affordable and sustainable building practices and their implementation at LANCASTER UNIVERSITY. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 13 May 2008 1800 - 1930, followed by a tour of theeco-residences at Grizedale College Lecture Theatre 1, Lancaster Leadership Centre (LUMS) Dr Avi Friedman received his Bachelor's in Architecture and Town Planning from the Israel Institute of Technology, his Master's from McGill University , and his Doctorate from the University of Montreal. In 1988, he is founder and Director of the Affordable Homes Program, at the McGill School of Architecture. He is known internationally for his housing innovation, in particular Grown Home and Next Home design. He is the author of six books and is a syndicatedcolumnist for CanWest newspapers. He is a practicing architect and the recipient of numerous awards including the Manning Innovation Award and the UN World Habitat Award. In 2000 he was selected by Wallpaper as 1 of 10 people from around the world "most likely to change the way we live."
