LRDG seminar - Candice Satchwell - Working and learning with people who are homelessDate: 17 June 2008 Time: 1.00 - 2.00 pm Working and learning with people who are homeless. Candice Satchwell. I will talk about a recent NRDC research project which looked at literacy education for people who are homeless. I will refer to reasons for people becoming homeless, barriers to educational provision, and ways in which the barriers might be overcome. A case study of homelessness in a North-West town included interviews with people who are homeless and those who work with them to provide some different perspectives on the benefits of education, difficulties in accessing it, and the government's current 'worklessness' agenda. I will also consider the everyday literacy practices of people who are without permanent accommodation. Venue: Meeting Room 2, Institute for Advanced Studies Event website: http://www.literacy.lancs.ac.uk Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
