Enhancing Teaching and Learning: two contrasting national policy approachesDate: 8 October 2008 Time: 12.30 p.m. - 2.00 p.m. Venue: IAS MR2 'ENHANCING TEACHING AND LEARNING: TWO CONTRASTING NATIONAL POLICY APPROACHES' Dr Joan Machell, CSET, Department of Educational Research, Lancaster University, Wednesday 8th October 2008, 12.30 - 2.00 p.m., IAS Meeting Room 2. Everyone welcome. This seminar will focus on two contrasting national HE policies intended to bring about sector-wide change in teaching and learning - Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) and the Quality Enhancement Framework (QEF). The QEF was an exclusively Scottish initiative whilst CETLs were only funded in England and Northern Ireland. Unlike the QEF which is a sector-wide initiative, the CETL initiative is based upon a competitive bidding process. I will be drawing on case studies undertaken as part of the CETL evaluation in which CSET are involved and on data from the first phase of the QEF evaluation also undertaken by CSET.
