Acceptance and Adoption of Technology Enhanced Learning in Teaching Practice: A comparison of two contexts.

This seminar will examine the views and experiences of educators in Canada and Europe gathered during the evaluation of a 3D multi-user virtual laboratory for the teaching of radiopharmacy. Multiple users can enter the virtual laboratory, move an avatar around and communicate with each other while interacting with the virtual world and a number of associated interactive learning resources. Qualitative and quantitative data gathered suggests that learning effectiveness, satisfaction and acceptance of the virtual laboratory are extremely high in Canada where most learners experienced a sense of presence and became quickly immersed, however, European educators revealed some concerns over adoption. Finally, we discuss the need to support professional learning and change to teaching practice within the context of institutional willingness to embrace technology-enhanced learning and new pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning.
