A Talk and Discussion about Trance and its Relationship to
Television, Meditation, Adverts, Hypnosis, Addiction, Music, Magic, Guru Worship
led by Dennis Wier
*Monday 19 January 2009 - 3pm - Bowland North Seminar Room 6*
What is trance really? How do we recognize it, use it, or avoid it?
Trance can be used beneficially in meditation and other spiritual practice; creatively with music, dance and art; therapeutically with hypnosis; to assist refugees and others with psychological trauma and to treat drug abuse.
Trance also has negative uses like manipulation and control which we can learn to protect ourselves against. Addiction is a particular trance, and so is the irresistible charisma of guru figures. Most adverts are trance-inducing.
The discussion will be led by Dennis Wier, author of "Trance - from Magic to Technology" and other books. Event website: http://www.trance.edu Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
