History Society Guest Lecture

The History Society is holding a guest lecture. Dr Ted Vallance, from the University of Liverpool,will give a talk entitled '"the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live, as the greatest he": What did Thomas Rainsborough mean? Re-thinking democracy in the English Revolution'.

Dr. Ted Vallance is a lecturer in the School of History at the University of Liverpool, where he specialises in Early Modern British History. After completing a D.Phil. at Balliol College, Oxford, where he researched oaths of loyalty during the civil wars (a version of which has subsequently been published, and is available in the University Library!), his most well-known work to date is 'The Glorious Revolution: 1688 and Britain's Fight for Liberty' (Little, Brown and Co, 2006), which has subsequently been published in paperback. He is currently working on a history of English radicalism from Magna Carta to the present day, which will be published this year.

This lecture will take place in Furness LT 2 starting at 6.30pm, after which we will be going for a meal at Verdes. The lecture will cost £1 for non-society members, and is free for members of the History Society and the History Department faculty.
