Urban Spaces and InequalitiesDate: 5 June 2009 Time: 10.00-18.00, in IAS MR1 We would like to invite you for the workshop "Urban Spaces and Inequalities" to be held on 5th of June 2009. Following the spatial turn, urban space is understood as socially produced, stratified as well as stratifying, thus, it should be seen as a force and expression of inequality. Processes of increasing ghettoisation and splintering urbanism (Graham and Marvin, 2001) are expressions of growing socio-spatial polarisations. Yet, inequalities do not only shape urban space, but urban space itself interacts with and impacts social inequalities which contribute to exclusion. With contributions concerning urban spaces, approaches on tourism and mobilities, gender, and sustainable spatialities, speakers will discuss the interrelation of stratification, space and mobilities from different perspectives. This workshop is organised by Katharina Manderscheid, Abhinaya Ramesh, and Basak Tanulku This event is free of charge. Please check this listing regularly for updates.
