Look Mummy, I'm DancingDate: 6-7 May 2009 Time: 20.00pm The Nuffield Theatre at Lancaster University Presents: 8pm, Wednesday 6th & Thursday 7th May 2009 £10 / £7 concessions SPECIAL OFFER: 2 for 1 on all tickets
The Adulterated Tales Festival continues with a compelling, humorous and brutally honest one woman show, fresh from London's SPILL Festival.
In LOOK MUMMY, I'M DANCING, Belgian actress Vanessa Van Durme shares the story of her life and sex change in an attempt to break down public prejudice, demonstrating that people who are different are also people.
Born a boy in 1948, Vanessa underwent gender reassignment when the process was still very much misunderstood, forcing her to temporarily abandon her career in the theatre. Some 20 years later after writing successfully for theatre and television and attracting a huge following as the longest running comedy act on Belgian radio, she returned to the stage to great critical acclaim.
This highly personal monologue charts Vanessa's struggle towards happiness, tolerance and acceptance from the severe prejudice of the recent past into the more compassionate present.
LOOK MUMMY, I'M DANCING is the charming and surprisingly direct stage version of Vanessa's autobiography of the same name and has been performed across Europe and in America, in four languages to standing ovations. To celebrate the arrival of this fantastic performance, the Nuffield is delighted to offer 2 tickets for the price of 1 to both evening's performances. As part of the 'A Night Less Ordinary' free tickets scheme, we have set aside a number of free tickets for young people under 26 for ALL festival events, on a first come first served basis.
