Frank Trentmann will be developing ideas and arguments discussed in his two papers, "Crossing Divides: Consumption and Globalization in History" Journal of Consumer Culture 9/2, pp. 187-220 and Materiality in the Future of History: Things, Practices, and Politics' Journal of British Studies, 48/2 (April 2009), pp. 283-307. Expect lively discussion of the relation between history and sociology, of the 'turn' to things, and of practices, institutions and politics.
