Gender and Corpus Linguistics one day event (BAAL Gender and Language special interest group)Date: 30 March 2010 Time: 09.00-05.00 pm Venue: Institute for Advanced Studies rooms 2/3 Corpus linguistics involves the use of large collections of naturally occurring texts, encoded in electronic form so that they can be analysed with the help of computer software to extract linguistic patterns. This British Association of Applied Linguistics event aims to bring together researchers working in the field, as well as showcasing recent corpus-based gender research, and enabling debate on best practice. Invited speakers include Bandar Al-Hejin (Lancaster), Paul Baker (Lancaster), Cinzia Bevitori (Bologna), Tony McEnery (Lancaster), Brona Murphy (Edinburgh), Louise Mullany (Nottingham), Michael Pearce (Sunderland), Costas Gabrielatos (Lancaster) and Eivind Torgersen (Lancaster). Attendance is open to anyone. Registration costs £20 and can be done online from the event's website.
