About Irma: Dr Irma M Munoz-Baell is a Senior Lecturer in General Linguistics in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alicante, Spain. She is a Visiting Research Fellow with CeDR during Michelmas Term, based in the Department for Applied Social Science. Irma's holds a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Alicante, Spain; and a Master's Degree in Logopedics (Language & Speech Pathology and Therapy) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. She also received a Master of Arts: Joint Honours English-Hispanic Studies from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland; and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Philosophy and Arts from the University of Alicante, Spain. Her research expertise focuses on the health of minority language groups/disadvantaged groups; with an emphasis on the intersection of Deaf bilingual education, inclusive education and school health promotion at the national and international levels; and the implications of the social and human rights based model of disability in public policies. Author of the first study on Spanish Sign Language phonemic level to be conducted in Spain and editor of the proceedings of the 1st national congress of Spanish Sign Language, Dr Munoz-Baell has also been involved in a number of projects in sign linguistics and Information and Communication Technology and Deaf communities. She has presented numerous professional papers in her field (most of them as guest speaker), has published in peer reviewed journals and written several books and chapters for books.
