Agata Fijalkowski, 'From Old Times to New Europe', DoM SeminarDate: 3 November 2010 Time: 5.00 pm Venue: IAS MR 2 Launch of Agata Fijalkowski's book, From Old Times to New Europe (Ashgate) From Old Times to New Europe considers the post-totalitarian legal framework in today's Europe, arguing that the study of totalitarianism and post-totalitarianism continues to be significant as ever. Drawing mainly on the Polish experience, this analysis focuses on the significant part played by history in the development of the region's identity and preferences concerning the role of the state in public and private life. These considerationsmight provide a clue with respect to understanding current approaches to de-communisation measuresadopted in Poland and in post-Communist Europe, a question that is the focus of Agata's present research. The process of dismantling and overcoming the Communist legacy is not without controversy. Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
