Changing lifeworlds, changing writing: researching how adults take on new writing practices at times of changeDate: 23 November 2010 Time: 1.00 pm - 2.pm Venue: County South, Room C89 Karin Tusting, Lancaster University and Amy Burgess, Exeter University, will present recent research they are currently engaged in looking at how adults learn new writing practices outside educational settings. They will present the methodology and findings of a pilot study, funded by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Lancaster University, in which they interviewed people at times of transition in their lives, exploring their narratives of learning new writing practices. They will argue that the approaches of activity theory and timescapes offer fruitful perspectives for developing this work, and will introduce the further research that they are proposing to carry out in this area.
