Seminar Series - Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)Date: 8 February 2012 Time: 12.30 - 2.00 p.m. Venue: FASS MR1 Paul Davies, Department of Educational Research, Lancaster University. 'Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)' Programmes designed to reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training ('NEETs') have been mostly targeted at those who have left school and need support in finding a route to a job or training course. However, there are a minority which attempt to prevent young people becoming 'NEET' through earlier intervention. Evaluation findings from both types of programmes will be presented. The first, an intensive guidance programme attempted to ease the path to a job or a training course by outlining a series of small steps a young person could take accompanied by a Connexions Personal Adviser. The second, a community learning programme, was designed to help upper primary and lower secondary school students from disadvantaged communities overcome barriers to formal learning by providing them with opportunities to participate in out of school activities.
