Throughout a period of 22 months data was collected through audio recordings which consisted of conversations between and with small groups of children (3-5 years old) and activities such as looking at books and playing. The recordings were conducted with each child at monthly intervals in an informal setting. This method was combined with participant observation, which was carried out within the nursery group once a week. This presentation deals with the methods of data collection and data analysis.
