The changing labour market and young people not in education, employment or training Almost a million young people in England are not in employment, education or training (NEET), more than one in every seven 16-24 year olds. This represents a large economic and social cost. In this seminar we present findings from our recent research on NEETs which addresses the diversity of the experiences and characteristics of the NEET cohort and how this has changed over time; how long-term changes in the labour market have impacted on young people; and, what the policy implications of these changes are.
