Seminar Series - "Probably the most educational thing you will ever see": What do young men learn from pornography?Date: 21 November 2012 Time: 12.30 - 2.00 p.m. Venue: B.89 County South Dr Mark Limmer Lecturer in Public Health Division of Health Research Lancaster University "Probably the most educational thing you will ever see": What do young men learn from pornography? Consumption of pornography at some point in their adolescence is a near universal activity among young men who, among other motivations, cite pornography as a source of learning about sex and sexual relationships. This seminar will explore what it is that young men seek to learn through pornography and how the content and process of consumption impact on this learning and serve to validate and reinforce existing gendered discourses of sex and sexual relationships. I will draw on young men's narratives and recent literature to reflect on the impact of pornography on their sexual attitudes and behaviour and through a critique of a recent education resource reflect on some of the difficulties of addressing pornography with young men.
