Conference: Private Identities, Private SpacesDate: 14 - 15 May 2013 Venue: Lancaster University, Department of History This conference addresses the themes of space, identity, domesticity, gender, position, role, material culture, instruction, emotion and privacy. Themes which are built around the personal and private lives of people and how these private spaces can be created and maintained in comparison to the public and professional life. The two day event reflects a commitment to create room for discussion as well as individual papers. We are pleased to welcome Professor Penny Summerfield (University of Manchester) as the head of a roundtable discussion on the themes of the conference on day one. Individual papers in panels of three will follow. Planned panels include: •An exploration of the personal and individual within history. •Spatial conceptions and constructions. •Seeking private identity and space: the means and method of research. Proposals should be 200 words and include a panel preference. Alternative panel suggestions will be considered. Proposals from any time period are welcomed. Details of academic position, interest, institution and discipline must accompany the proposal. Proposals should be sent to Kirsten Smith at k.smith4@lancs.ac.uk. Alternatively by post: K.
