Creative Writing - 30th Anniversary Event

Date: 1 May 2013 Time: 6.00 pm

Venue: Peter Scott Gallery

2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the creative writing campus MA at Lancaster University, though the first students to study creative writing were admitted to the university in 1969. This makes the Lancaster Writing Programme one of the oldest and most prestigious locations for writers across the country. Moreover, with 13 permanent members of staff, we are one of the largest.

In this period our courses have expanded to include a full range of undergraduate courses and a thriving PhD programme. Lancaster is now one of the leading providers of postgraduate study by distance learning in the UK and this has led to extensive international networks, encompassing Europe, America, Africa and Asia. We also provide opportunities for a range of students in the UK who are unable to attend the campus, so that our courses combine their international reach with rich cultural diversity.

Over the years, our writers have gone on to achieve many wonderful things - you can browse their publications here. Our alumnae include the Orange prize shortlisted Monique Roffey, and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize winner Ray Robinson.

Our current students are also making an impact: Cake is a student-run magazine publishing poems, flash fiction and reviews. Flash is an online journal published by current undergraduates and features poetry, short fiction, criticism and hybrid work.

Please join us on Wednesday 1st May for our 30th Anniversary celebrations - an evening of readings and wine in the Scott Gallery. We will be joined by Andrew Miller (Alumnus and 2011 Winner of the the Costa Book of the Year Prize); Professor David Craig (the founder of the Creative Writing MA) plus current PhD student Naomi Kruger and Martha Sprackland (Alumnus and Assistant Poetry Editor at Faber).

This event is sponsored by Lancaster Alumni and is free and open to all.
