£5 Million Research Centre on Energy, Mobility and Demand is launched

A new cross-Faculty, RCUK-funded research centre, DEMAND: The Dynamics of Energy, Mobility and Demand has launched with funding of around £5 million.  Professor Elizabeth Shove, from the Sociology Department at Lancaster University, is Co-Director of the DEMAND centre, which will undertake a 5 year interdisciplinary research programme taking a distinctive approach to end use energy demand.

New Report from Independent Researchers Confirms Motivations of Arts, Humanities and Social Science Students

This report concludes that although financial rewards remain important for arts, humanities and social science graduates, their motivations for study and the associated rewards are much more multifaceted. Read more>>

Lancaster’s Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences highly ranked in 2014 UK League Tables

A number of disciplines in Lancaster’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences retain their top 10 positions in the 2014 Complete University Guide and The Guardian University Guide 2014. Art & Design achieves a ranking of 2nd in the UK in the Complete University Guide and Sociology climbs to a ranking of 3rd nationally in The Guardian University Guide.  Other subjects in the top 10 include: Communication and Media Studies; Drama and Dance; Linguistics; Religious Studies; and Social Work.

Top 100 position in the World for English, Linguistics, Modern Languages and Sociology

The 2013 QS World University Rankings has ranked subjects at Lancaster in the top 100 in the world including Linguistics ranked 10th in the world and Sociology ranked 38th.  Other subjects at Lancaster ranked in the global top 100 include: English Language & Literature; Modern Languages; and Communication & Media Studies.
