Research Interests

Michael is a founder member of the International Observatory on End of Life Care and remains associated with its activities as an honorary research fellow. He studied theology at Leeds (BA) education at Bradford (MSc), the spiritual dimension of health care at Sheffield (PhD), and trained for the Anglican ministry at Wells Theological College. His research interests lie in the areas of hospice history, spirituality, the global analysis of hospice-palliative care, and healing in the context of mortality. Michael is a member of the EAPC Task Force for Palliative Care in Europe and serves on the Help the Hospices International Palliative Care Reference Group. He is currently researching the meaning and metaphors associated with hospice-palliative care organisations across Europe.
