Rebecca IrvineRebecca Irvine worked in English and Creative Writing until October 2009.
Part 1 Tutor, Creative Writing Department: English and Creative Writing Research InterestsRebecca Irvine's first degree was from Oxford. A bye-product of her time there was her first book: A Girl's Guide to the English Public Schoolboy. She now says this was written and published before she was old enough to know better. Her early training as an advertising copywriter led her to an enduring belief in the power of the short sentence. And a huge respect for the power of the word. She went on to work as a freelance journalist, and assignments varied from theatre criticism to in-depth reports on facial massages. A practising Buddhist since 1984, she contributed to the Buddhist press for many years, both as writer and guest editor. Latterly, she has written for the English press, Irish Television and London community theatre. Rebecca returned to academia in 1999, to take an MA in Cultural Studies from Lancaster University. Currently working on a PhD in this department Rebecca was Manchester Cathedral International Interfaith Poet of The Year 2004. Her latest play, The Woodpiper is just going into pre-production for staging in 2006. Associated Keyword: Creative writing
