Research Interests

Elisa joined CESAGen in May 2004. She is an applied linguist and a social scientist, and is currently research associate on the 'Criminal' Genes and Public Policy project which began in 2006. The project explores the implications of research into genetic factors in criminal behaviour for the criminal justice system and for public policy, and investigates the views of key stakeholder groups such as probation officers, social workers, and the legal profession.

Between 2004-2006, Elisawas research associate in public engagement in a joint project between CESAGen and the North West Genetics Knowledge Park (Nowgen), where she was researching the ethical, legal and social dimensions of genetics with particular reference to personalised medicine.

Before joining CESAGen, Elisawas co-applicant and research associate on an ESRC-funded project on 'The Discourse of the GM Food Debate'(with Cook and Robbins, 2003-2004) and, prior to that,reserachassociate on the ESRC-funded project 'The Communication of GM Crop Research from Expert to Non-Experts' (also with Cook and Robbins, Nov 2001-Nov 2002), bothat the University of Reading, UK.
