Research Interests

My first degree from the University of Liverpool encompassed a broad range of topics and today my interests continue to be interdisciplinary and varied. I am particularly interested in the study of groups of people marginalised by society.

I have recently completed the first UK survey of Advance Care Planning in care homes for older people and am in the process of writing up a report and disemminating the results.

I am now employed by Health RDS to provide research proposal development and support to research teams across the North West, and I am particularly interested in promoting user involvement in research. Please contact me if you would like further information about getting involved in research, either as a professional or as a member of the public. I also currently work on a project funded by Macmillan that aims to measure and demonstrate user involvement in cancer services across the UK.

My research interests include user involvement, older people, care homes and the social aspects of ageing.

Career details

My research interests have been influenced by my life outside of education, and I am grateful for the practical experience that supports (and grounds!) my academic work. I have worked with older people in residential settings for many years, and also have experience of service delivery for people with disabilities and mental health difficulties.
